Drivers are set for significant disruptions as the A3 motorway faces a complete shutdown this weekend, from Friday evening to Monday morning, to allow for ongoing widening works.

A full closure of the A3 motorway in both directions is scheduled for this weekend to facilitate ongoing widening works, according to the National Roads Authority.

The closure will affect the section between Croix de Gasperich and Croix de Bettembourg. It will begin on the evening of Friday, 24 October, and last until 4am on Monday, 27 October.

Phased closure schedule

Starting 8pm, Friday:

The A3 motorway towards Luxembourg City will be closed between Croix de Bettembourg and Croix de Gasperich. Concurrently, the following slip roads will close:

  • Access from Croix de Bettembourg (from the A13 towards Luxembourg City).
  • Access from the Livange junction (from the N31 towards Luxembourg City).

Starting 9.30pm, Friday:

The A3 motorway towards France will close between the Gluck roundabout and Croix de Bettembourg. The following slip roads will also close:

  • Access from Croix de Gasperich (from the A1 and A6 towards Metz).
  • Access from the Livange junction (from the N31 towards Metz).

Planned diversions:

  • Through traffic: Will be diverted via the A13, A4, and A6 motorways.
  • Local traffic: Diversions will be in place on the secondary road network (N31 and CR231).
  • Service station access: The Berchem service stations will be completely inaccessible from 6.30pm Friday until 4am Monday.

The National Roads Authority has warned that "traffic disruption is expected in the late afternoon" on Friday due to preparatory work. The A3 is scheduled to fully reopen by 4am on Monday, 27 October.
