The cost of the royal transition, a new "Tiny Forest", and the arrival of the city's Christmas tree were key topics addressed by Luxembourg City officials in their monthly press briefing.

During its monthly "City Breakfast" press conference on Wednesday, officials from the Luxembourg City municipality addressed a range of topics, from the cost of the recent change of throne to upcoming environmental and seasonal initiatives.

Mayor Lydie Polfer stated it was understandable that citizens wanted to know the municipal expenses for the change of throne, confirming that the total cost to the city was just under €5 million. She provided the detail that the stage erected on the Glacis accounted for nearly €2 million of that budget, a decision she said was made jointly by the government, the Maison du Grand-Duc, and the municipality.

Shifting to future plans, the mayor announced that a "Tiny Forest" will be planted at the Neudorf cemetery. The project will see 450 trees densely planted on a 150-square-metre plot.

With the seasonal transition, the municipality also confirmed that the Christmas spirit will soon return to the capital. A 12-metre-high fir tree will be brought from Schifflange to the Place d'Armes this Saturday.

Finally, with All Saints' Day approaching, cemetery capacity was discussed. The city's 13 cemeteries, which cover 27 hectares, have hosted 670 funerals in 2024. Officials reported that space remains sufficient, as the proportion of cremations is now nearly equal to that of burials.
