The ADR party is set for a handover in the Chamber as Jeff Engelen departs on 19 November and Michel Lemaire prepares to succeed him.

Another change in the Chamber of Deputies is on the way, this time in the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR). According to RTL Information, northern MP Jeff Engelen will leave the Chamber on 19 November, making room for Michel Lemaire, the next-elected candidate.

Lemaire, a 37-year-old Clervaux councillor and ADR parliamentary staffer, could be sworn in as early as 20 November if the Chamber agrees to that date.

Responding to an RTL query, Engelen said he would be 75 at the next elections and that it is time for a generational change. Engelen, who turned 72 this year, has served in the Chamber since 2018. He has been a councillor in the Wincrange commune since 1990 and a member of the ADR since 1989.

This move follows last week’s announcement by Chamber vice president Fernand Etgen, also a northern deputy, that he will step back from active politics. In the Democratic Party (DP) group, former minister Marc Hansen will succeed Etgen.
