A series of thefts and arrests marked police activity on Tuesday, with officers detaining two people for shoplifting in Limpertsberg and another individual in Belval for using stolen bank cards.
Luxembourg police responded to a series of incidents on Tuesday, including a shoplifting case, several burglaries, and multiple traffic-related offences.
In Limpertsberg, officers apprehended two individuals suspected of stealing from a local shop. Police located the first suspect shortly after the report, finding the stolen goods in their possession. A second suspect was detained moments later, also in possession of unpaid items. According to police, both individuals were aggressive, uncooperative, and repeatedly insulted the officers. Believing the pair to be heavily intoxicated, police had them examined by a doctor before placing them in custody. They face accusations of theft, insulting public officials, and public order offences.
Separately, police have launched investigations into burglaries at a bar in Echternach and a private home in Lieler, where items were reported stolen.
In other incidents, police intervened in several traffic-related cases. On the Route d'Arlon in Koerich, officers confiscated the licence of a driver who had veered off the road after noticing a strong smell of alcohol that was later confirmed by a test.
In a separate case in Ettelbruck, a damaged car was found parked in a disabled space on Rue Abbé Henri Müller. The driver and passenger were unresponsive to police enquiries.A follow-up check found the driver subject to a driving ban, and the public prosecutor’s office ordered the vehicle seized and a fine imposed.
Meanwhile, on Avenue du Rock'N'Roll in Belval, a person was reported for attempting to pay with multiple bank cards. A police patrol located and checked the suspect, discovering the cards were stolen. An investigation linked the cards to a recent car break-in and the "fake bank employee" scam. The individual was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor's office and has since appeared before an examining magistrate.
