The Nepalese community in Luxembourg will gather in Strassen on Tuesday afternoon for a peace rally and candlelit vigil in response to deadly crackdowns on student protests in Nepal.
Protests over corruption and a government-imposed social media ban in Nepal escalated into deadly violence, with police crackdowns killing 19 students. Hundreds were left injured as live ammunition, rubber bullets, and tear gas was used by the government on protesting Nepalis.
In the face of violence, the Nepalese community of Luxembourg is organising a peace rally on Tuesday, September 9, in Strassen at 4pm. The Nepalese community and their supporters are invited to come together and bring protest signs to hold a protest and candle-lit vigil to honor those who have been killed in Nepal fighting against corruption.
Deeplove Baraily, spokesperson for Non-resident Nepalese Association Luxembourg (NRNA), states: "It goes against human law, and they were kids who lost their lives because they are asking for the corruption to stop." Honorary consul of Nepal, François Prum, and Strassen Mayor, Nico Pundel, will also be present.
The protest is expected to take place at 4pm on Place Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Strassen.
