Police in Luxembourg reported a series of weekend incidents including burglaries, violent robbery, shoplifting, scooter thefts, and several arrests linked to public drunkenness across the country.

On Saturday afternoon, around 5.15pm, police were alerted to a case of shoplifting in a store in Luxembourg City centre. Security staff had apprehended a suspect who had stolen goods worth over four figures.

The alleged shoplifter was arrested and brought before the examining magistrate on Sunday morning.

Burglaries

Several burglaries were reported to police on Saturday and Sunday evening.

In Dudelange, intruders broke into a house through a patio door that night. A burglary was also reported overnight in Schifflange, as well as in a flat in an apartment block in Hollerich.

In addition, burglars broke into a shop in Strassen through a damaged entrance door and stole goods.

Robbery and theft

On Saturday evening, police were called to a violent robbery near Avenue Monterey in Luxembourg City.

According to initial information, two individuals grabbed a person by the arms, tried to push them to the ground, and tore a chain from their neck before fleeing the scene.

On Saturday afternoon and early evening, three people also reported the theft of their e-scooters, which had been parked at the Schueberfouer. Police have launched an investigation.

Several people placed in custody

Around 12.30am, police were alerted to an aggressive, intoxicated individual on Avenue de la Faïencerie. The man was uncooperative with officers and, given that he was drunk, causing a public nuisance and posing a danger to himself and others, he was placed in a sobering-up cell.

Later that evening and into the night, other cases of public drunkenness were reported in Luxembourg City, Wincrange, and Esch-sur-Alzette. In each case, the individuals involved were taken into custody.
