Ahead of the second weekend of the 685th edition of the iconic Schueberfouer, our colleagues at RTL Infos set out to gauge whether the spirit of this unmissable event is still alive and well among visitors.

"I've been coming to Schueberfouer since I was a child. When I was little, I came with my parents, and now I come with my work colleagues", one fair visitor said in conversation with RTL Infos. With a twinkle in her eye, the young woman sat at a table with colleagues, including Joao, who has just arrived in the Grand Duchy.

What better place to introduce people to her country's culture than one of Luxembourg's most traditional occasions, which dates back all the way to the 14th century and draws almost two million visits each year?

"It's really great", she continues, "because there's always a good atmosphere. There are lots of people, and you always end up seeing people you know."

No matter which generation our colleagues spoke to, the answers were strikingly similar with one visitor saying: "It's on my calendar every year, just like the Octave or any other celebration that recurs every year."

A second visitor shared: "The Schueberfouer is unmissable, you just cannot miss it! I think its a tradition for all Luxembourgers."

Another person our colleagues interviewed reminisced on his time at the Schueberfouer: "My first visit was with my parents when I was all little. I was barely three years old."

The Schueberfouer's lights not only attract local residents, it attracts people from beyond the borders of the Grand Duchy. RTL Infos met a person from the Saarland who, after seeing a report on television, decided that he had to introduce his family to one of the largest and most attractive fairs in the Greater Region.

Schueberfouer, the 'last chance for some fun before school starts again'

A French father believes that "it's a great chance for the family to be together. The children want to go on all the rides so my August salary will be spent on this", he said with a smile. When asked about the age-old debate over whether the funfair has become too expensive, he felt the prices were "reasonable".

Further on, a father and his daughter were visiting the fair to make summer last just a little longer: "First of all, it's a well-timed festival because it takes place when we usually come back from holiday, so even if we're feeling a bit sad about coming back, the fair indeed makes the return to work and school a little more enjoyable."

The young girl agrees with her father: "I think it's cool because at least it's the last chance to have some fun before going back to school and so on." When asked what she likes best, she replies: "Rides that spin around and give you a thrill, because I love thrills."
