According to the latest police bulletin, a number of fraudulent phone calls have been reported in Luxembourg over recent weeks.
The latest scam consists of a phone call informing the recipient in English that there is a warrant out for their arrest. The scammer thus hopes to obtain personal information and bank details from their victim, as they attempt to convince the victim of the need to pay or provide valuables.
These scams use false phone numbers, designed to look like official numbers in order to deceive their victims. Anyone who falls victim to such a scam should contact the police.
In addition, the police advise people never to give out personal details to strangers, and to behave with caution when a caller insists on a quick response or reaction. In case of any confusion, always contact the agency or institution in question directly to check if the phone call is legitimate.
