Following two years of intensive training, a new cohort of 37 professional firefighters was sworn in Friday and will now be deployed to rescue centres across Luxembourg starting in October.
A new cohort of firefighters was officially sworn into the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) on Friday. The ceremony saw 30 professional firefighters from the basic cadre and seven officer firefighters from the senior cadre take their oaths.
Having completed two years of theoretical courses and practical training, the recruits will assume their permanent positions within CGDIS rescue centres and directorates beginning in October.
The event, held at the National Fire and Rescue Centre (CNIS), was attended by Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden, Chairman of the CGDIS Board of Directors Alain Becker, and CGDIS Director-General Paul Schroeder. They were joined by the firefighters' families and friends to mark the occasion.

In their addresses, officials underscored the importance of commitment, professionalism, and upholding the CGDIS's core values. Minister Gloden outlined the essential components of an effective rescue structure: high-quality training, modern equipment, and fit-for-purpose infrastructure. He also used the opportunity to announce an upcoming legislative amendment designed to further enhance working conditions for personnel.
Looking ahead, the CGDIS has confirmed a new recruitment campaign will launch in March 2026, with a public information day scheduled for 14 March.
