Minister of Agriculture Martine Hansen has disclosed that 120 suspected breaches of the Animal Welfare Act were reported in 2024, though most cases resulted in no fines or seizures due to minor or unverified violations.

Between May and December 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture received 120 reports of suspected violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

Of these, 77 were deemed admissible for further investigation. Veterinary inspectors were despatched in 70 of the 77 cases, though the majority of violations identified were minor. In most instances, the initial suspicions could not be substantiated. To date, no fines have been issued, nor have any animals been seized as a result of these reports.

These details were disclosed by Minister of Agriculture Martine Hansen in response to a parliamentary question from MPs Fernand Etgen and Luc Emering of the Democratic Party (DP).
