The public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the former director of a children's charity in Luxembourg following accusations of indecent assault.

According to online news outlet Reporter, the "Lëtzebuerger Kannerduerf" (Children's Village) management referred the case to the prosecutor's office in March this year. This was confirmed to RTL by a spokesperson.

The allegations date back to 20 years ago, when the accused is said to have sexually harassed a girl who had just turned 18 at the time. The suspect, who worked as director of the charity supporting children for 30 years, has been retired for the last decade.

The victim submitted a complaint herself last year, but it was dismissed due to the statute of limitations.

Reporter also stated that the "Innocence in Danger" organisation has written to the public prosecutor's office expressing concerns that there could be further young victims who have not come forward.
