The municipality of Junglinster is taking a novel approach to this year's Arbor Day celebrations, opting to plant trees not traditionally found in Luxembourg.
Recognising the challenges posed by climate change, local officials are exploring the potential benefits of introducing North American tree species to the region.
Instead of the usual forest or orchard setting, this year's planting took place beside the Op Fréinen sports hall.
This year's tree selection includes maple, which is very resilient against temperature changes as well as dry weather, as well as oak, another drought resistant species.
By selecting species better suited to withstand rising temperatures and changing weather patterns, the municipality hopes to create a legacy that will serve future generations.
This initiative reflects a growing trend in Europe, where municipalities are rethinking traditional forestry practices in response to global warming.
