The start of demolition work at BENU Village is pending due to the conclusion of the ongoing liquidation process following a series of financial and management problems.
The BENU Village Esch association was forced to close its doors in December 2023, putting an end to all its activities. In late December 2023, two consecutive fires devastated several containers at the eco-village. Citing safety concerns, municipal authorities have decided to partially demolish the site, but its uncertain when the works will begin.
Established in 2015, the BENU Village was the Greater Region's first eco-village, operating on circular economy principles that emphasised reusing materials and minimising waste. However, financial difficulties led to its closure in late 2023.
Despite these setbacks, former employees are striving to rebuild the project on more stable foundations. However, specific details about the new project's structure and operations remain under discussion.
