Luxembourg's retail landscape is changing as two popular children's shops, Studio-Land and Babibutz, announce their upcoming closures.

Two of Luxembourg's best-known children's shops are set to close in Contern and Capellen.

After more than two decades of operations, the Studio-Land shop in Contern will close its doors at the end of the year. Management informed RTL that one of the primary reasons for the closure is the steady rise in online sales, which have significantly outpaced in-store purchases.

A similar situation is unfolding at Babibutz in Capellen, where stock clearance is already in progress, and many shelves have been dismantled.

Management at Kichechef, the parent company of Babibutz, noted that several factors influenced this decision. They indicated that the current sales model no longer aligns with market realities, as consumer habits have shifted, resulting in fewer birth lists and an increase in the purchase and resale of items in the second-hand market.

In Capellen, the space that has been dedicated to babies for the past 14 years will be repurposed for a different activity.
