The public prosecutor’s office confirmed a man had been arrested on Tuesday night for failing to stop at the scene of a collision, as well as driving under the influence and without a valid licence.
The motorist collided with a lamppost in Bridel and carried on driving. But a witness was able to provide sufficient information to the authorities, leading to the man being taken into custody a short time later. He tested positive for drugs and alcohol consumption, and also failed to produce a valid driving licence. A brief investigation revealed it was not his first brush with the law, as he had committed multiple violations of the Highway Code in the past.
The motorist was duly arrrested and brought before a judge on Wednesday afternoon, who placed the man under “strict judiciary control”, with legal obligations and prohibitions to be observed.
The public prosecutor’s office said road safety was of the utmost priority and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy.
