The Nature and Forest Agency (ANF) has responded to the fatal accident in Lellig, emphasising that “there is no such thing as complete safety in forests.”

A hiker in Lellig was recently killed when he was crushed by a falling tree. Following the incident, the hiking path remains closed as an investigation is underway.

While the ANF noted that all forests in Luxembourg are generally accessible to the public, they stressed that individuals who choose to enter these areas must be aware of the inherent risks associated with the environment.

The ANF also highlighted that after several dry summers, the particularly wet conditions of summer and autumn 2024 have strained trees, impacting their stability. As a result, hikers are advised to exercise extra caution in and around forests after heavy rainfall, storms, prolonged dry spells, or freezing rain.
