Police in Soleuvre conducted a speed check between 12.15am and 1.30am on Friday morning, stopping a number of motorists for violating the speed limit. Four were fined on the spot.
After the operation ended, police noticed another driver speeding past and flagged the vehicle down. However, the motorist ignored them and sped off in an attempt to evade the authorities. A car chase ensued, as officers followed the speeding driver towards Esch-sur-Alzette, succeeding in pulling the car over on Rue Metzlerlach.
Although the driver passed both alcohol and drug tests, it transpired that he had had a previous brush with the law for speeding offences. As a result, officers confiscated his licence on the spot, and the car was impounded.
In Dudelange, police were alerted to a possible drink driver at around 2.25am on Friday. A patrol located the man on Rue Jean Jaurès, where they conducted a breathalyser test. The driver failed, and also did not have a valid driving licence, resulting in a provisional driving ban.
In the early hours of the morning another police patrol came across an empty car with the engine running at a service station on Route de Longwy, Rodange. They located and spoke to the driver, who smelled strongly of alcohol. A breathalyser test followed, and officers issued a ban as a result.
