
According to the police, a tragic incident occurred on a hiking trail in the east of the country on Sunday afternoon, leaving one person dead.
A 40-year-old man tragically died after being struck by a falling tree in Lellig. Despite the swift response of first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Manternach mayor Jean-Pierre Hoffmann shared his deep sadness at the incident.
"I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the deceased's family and friends. We were all shocked by the news and will await the outcome of the investigation to decide which measures must be taken," he told RTL on Monday.
The hiking trail is to be closed until further notice while the authorities investigate whether the tree suffered a sickness, as well as establishing the issue of responsibility. Hoffmann said the investigation would be passed on to the public prosecutor's office.
