The number of people recorded as jobseekers by ADEM, the National Employment Agency, has increased by 10.5% in one year. Simultaneously, the number of job opportunities in the Grand Duchy has decreased by 20.3%.

On 31 August 2024, 17,735 jobseekers were recorded by ADEM — a figure which is 1,679 greater than during the same time period in 2023.

The number of people who haven’t worked in four months has increased in particular. The biggest increase occurred in the area of qualified workers, as well as the 30- to 44-year-old age range.

Concerning the most hard-hit industries: workers in the construction, installation and maintenance sector, as well as the transport, industrial and banking sector were the most likely to join ADEM.

In general, the number of new registrations has gone down slightly, according to ADEM’s recent report. In August of this year, 2,454 residents signed up to ADEM, which shows a decrease (by 56 people) in comparison to 2023. Additionally, 50 new refugees from Ukraine were recorded by the agency.

However, the number of job opportunities has decreased by 20.3%.
