On Monday night, a major police crackdown on public transport led to an arrest and multiple fines as officers targeted drug-related offences.
Police conducted a significant drug crackdown on public transport on Monday night. The checks resulted in fines or penalty notices for eight passengers detected by a drug-sniffing dog.
During a check on a train travelling from Bettembourg to Rodange, the dog alerted officers to an individual carrying 37 packets of cannabis. The suspect was promptly arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor's office.
On Tuesday morning, a police patrol observed a drug transaction at the junction of Rue de Strasbourg and Rue Adolphe Fischer in Luxembourg City's Gare neighbourhood. Both the buyer and seller were apprehended shortly after the exchange, with the seller appearing before an examining magistrate later that day.
Later on Tuesday, at around 2.30pm, officers conducted another drug check in the same area. They noticed an individual behaving suspiciously before getting into a vehicle. Although no drugs were found on the driver, an on-site drug test came back positive.
In a subsequent check of a suspected drug dealer, officers observed the individual making suspicious swallowing movements. The public prosecutor's office was informed, and a CT scan revealed several foreign objects in the suspect's body. The individual was arrested and presented to an examining magistrate on Tuesday morning.
Additionally, on Tuesday at noon, a man was reported for making death threats against a woman. He was intercepted by a police patrol in Soleuvre and, following orders from the public prosecutor's office, was arrested and brought before an examining magistrate on Wednesday morning.
