On Monday evening, a high-speed pursuit starting in Belgium and crossing into Luxembourg culminated in the driver's arrest in Niederkorn.
On Monday evening, Luxembourgish police were alerted by their Belgian counterparts about a high-speed car chase that began in Belgium and had crossed into Luxembourg, involving a vehicle with three people aboard. Additionally, the driver had already participated in previous high-speed chases.
The driver sped across the border and drove recklessly through several areas, including Linger, Hautcharage, and Bascharage, before approaching the Biff roundabout. It was at that point that Belgian police lost sight of the vehicle.
Luxembourg police swiftly responded, and with the aid of eyewitnesses, police patrols managed to locate the car on Rue Nic Meyers in Hautcharage. However, by the time police arrived, only one person remained in the vehicle. This individual fled again, heading towards Niederkorn and narrowly missing a police officer who attempted to stop the vehicle on a motorcycle.
The pursuit continued until the driver lost control of his vehicle at the Niederkorn roundabout and crashed head-on into a streetlight. He sustained minor injuries and was promptly apprehended by officers. The other two occupants of the vehicle have not been found yet.
A subsequent drug test revealed that the driver was under the influence, and further checks confirmed he was banned from driving in Belgium. The car was found to be neither registered nor insured. Inside, police discovered various drugs, a machete, pepper spray, and a mobile phone.
The public prosecutor has been informed, and the driver has been arrested. The police thank the public for their assistance in locating the suspect quickly.
