Ahead of the Schueberfouer's official opening on Friday afternoon, a Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps team assembled at the Glacis to stage a mock rescue from one of the rides.
Safety is a major topic when it comes to the annual funfair. The CGDIS therefore carried out the operation as part of their preparations for the worst-case scenario: if one of the towering rides were to break down with riders stuck in mid-air.
CIS Luxembourg firefighters used a revolving ladder to bring the volunteer riders to safety.
The exercise enabled the emergency team to prepare themselves calmly in order to test optimal conditions for gaining access to the ride, parking the necessary vehicles, and ascertaining how best to reach riders stuck on the broken-down ride.
In a real emergency, the CGDIS would naturally conduct the operation at greater speed.
