Between 13 and 20 August alone, an additional 136 animals from 79 farms tested positive for the disease.

Farm operators noticing increased mortality rates are advised to contact ALVA immediately.

Symptoms of bluetongue disease typically include fever and a blue-tinged tongue, and the disease can often be fatal.

A vaccination campaign has been underway since 9 August.

There is no risk to humans from this disease.
