In response to recent student protests across France, the Prefecture of Moselle has imposed a ban on gatherings outside a number of secondary schools for the start of the week.

This decision comes after student organisations called for further demonstrations on Monday.

In addition to restricting assemblies, the authorities have also outlawed the carrying of weapons in the area under the Prefecture's jurisdiction.

Several schools, including some in Metz, have already announced that classes will be held remotely on Monday as a precautionary measure.

Over the past several days, secondary school students in France have been staging protests to demand better conditions in the education sector.

On Friday alone, unrest was reported at more than 500 schools nationwide, with incidents in the capital Paris including students setting fire to two school buildings.
