Fashion chain Esprit is said to have not had any new deliveries in Luxembourg since spring 2024, amid closures in neighbouring Germany.
The chain, which has its headquarters in Düsseldorf, is closing down all its stores in Germany, putting 1,300 jobs at risk. On Friday, it was announced that British investment group Alteri had purchased the brand's European licence rights.
The seven German Esprit companies, which all filed for bankruptcy, had spoken out in favour of Alteri's offer. There were no details released regarding the purchase price.
Esprit will continue to trade outside Europe where it is represented in around 40 countries globally. In 2020, the brand closed down 50 branches due to coronavirus, leading 1,100 employees to lose their jobs.
Esprit stores also affected in Luxembourg
Four of Luxembourg's seven Esprit stores have closed their doors in recent weeks due to Esprit Europe GmbH declaring bankruptcy.
The stores affected are shops in Luxembourg City centre and at the city train station, as well as the shopping centre on Route d'Arlon and a shopping centre in Weiswampach.
The branches in Mersch, Belval and Pommerloch function as part of a franchise and will continue to operate with other brands. The employees affected at these locations could be kept on as a result.
A concerned member of staff told RTL that Esprit stores in Luxembourg had not received any new deliveries since spring of this year.
