
On Thursday, official results from Luxembourg's Ministry of Education showed that 74 per cent of students passed this year's final secondary school exams on their first attempt.
Of the 3,925 candidates, 2,910 passed, a rate of 74%, up one point from last year. Of the remaining candidates, 17% (652 students) will have to take resit examinations, while 9% failed.
The pass rate for classical secondary education stood at 82%, with 12% of students required to take resits and 6% failing the exams. In general secondary education, 68% of candidates passed, an improvement of two percentage points compared to last year. A further 20% will take resits, while 12% did not pass.
In the classical secondary stream, girls achieved a slightly higher pass rate than boys, at 83% compared with 80%. In the general stream, however, boys outperformed girls with an overall pass rate of 71%, whereas girls had an overall pass rate of 66%.
A total of 179 students were awarded the 'Excellent' distinction, granted to pupils with an average score of at least 52. They accounted for 6% of all students who passed this year's exams. Of these, 144 were enrolled in the classical secondary stream and 35 in the general secondary stream.
