During periods of extreme heat, it is especially important to look out for older generations. The health service is therefore reminding residents of the free care programme run by the Ministry of Health, the Red Cross, and COPAS.

As temperatures continue to rise, the health service is reminding residents that its heatwave follow-up programme is still open to people aged 75 and over who live alone and do not receive nursing care. Around 540 people have registered for the scheme so far, which offers free visits from a home care service.

The reminder is also aimed at those who initially declined the visits. Those who signed a waiver because a family member was providing regular care but found during the recent heatwave that they needed additional support are encouraged to contact the Red Cross again as soon as possible. Registration can be done by calling 2755 between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, or by emailing canicule@croix-rouge.lu.

The Red Cross coordinates the visits in partnership with COPAS.

The Ministry of Health stresses that anyone experiencing symptoms such as feeling unwell, unusual tiredness, dizziness, headaches, confusion or fever should call 112 immediately.

The ministry's full letter is available on its website.
