In 2022, Luxembourg's emergency services were called out on 1,000 more occasions than in 2023.
According to reports published by the CGDIS,there were 70,660 emergency interventions in 2023.
On average, the 112 emergency number received over 750 calls a day. Around 5/6 of these calls were so-called abusive phone calls each day. The CGDIS has issued a warning not to misuse the emergency number for pranks or other non-urgent reasons.
The number of staff at the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps has generally increased, adding 150 new volunteer fire fighters and 50 more professional fire fighters.
The CGDIS said it planned to improve its recruitment processes, particularly targeting women, as the rate increased from 21 to 22 in 2023.
However, just 7% of professional fire fighters in Luxembourg are female.
