
The results of this year’s ‘Relay for Life’ event were officially revealed during the ‘Trophy of Hope’ awards ceremony on Tuesday evening, with a new fundraising record reported by Luxembourg’s Cancer Foundation. The 2024 edition generated a record amount in donations, totalling €891,253 in support the Cancer Foundation.
Margot Heirendt, director of the foundation, expressed her joy over the milestone: “We are deeply touched by the outpouring of generosity and commitment from each team. The Relay for Life has once again demonstrated the powerful forces that are compassion and unity.”
The annual fundraising race at the Coque sports centre in Kirchberg took place on 23 and 24 March. Notable guests included Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and the event has been considered a success in multiple respects, drawing 13,595 participants across 301 in-person teams and 225 virtual teams.
In a press release, the Cancer Foundation said the high numbers demonstrated the “commitment of participants towards cancer patients and their loved ones in Luxembourg and beyond.”
On Tuesday evening, the Trophées de l’Espoir (Trophies of Hope) prizes were awarded to six teams for raising the most funds in six different categories. The ceremony took place at the Tramsschapp cultural center in Limpertsberg.
