In a recent development at the Mutualist Medical and Supplementary Fund (CMCM), Gilbert Goergen, the newly appointed president, and his team have released a video addressing the ongoing turbulence within the organisation.
CMCM, Luxembourg's leading mutual insurer with nearly 300,000 members, has faced significant upheaval in recent months, with its director general facing fierce criticism, particularly from staff members. Additionally, André Heinen, the President of the Administrative Board, was recently ousted by a group of eight board members led by Gilbert Goergen.
Ahead of the planned Extraordinary General Assembly, the group has released a video providing insight into the situation. Goergen highlights issues that he observed shortly after joining the CMCM board 18 months ago, pointing to problems not only in the relationship between Director General Fabio Secci and staff, but also in the governance of the Administrative Board. He states that the former President, André Heinen, resisted implementing changes necessary for the board to function effectively.
Yves Scharlé, the Board's new General Secretary, echoes concerns about the previous administration, describing it as a "one-man show" characterised by a "total lack of transparency" and "poor communication."
Despite the controversy surrounding the director general, the group expressed its continuing support for him. They asserted that the controversy is merely symptomatic of deeper issues within the CMCM, particularly concerning governance and the need for improved planning.
Goergen emphasised the need to shift focus towards the organisation's future. He expressed regret that this objective has been sidelined, stressing the importance of a board that prioritises the CMCM's future rather than solely focusing on management issues and power dynamics.
"It's unfortunate that discussions about the future of CMCM have taken a backseat. It's high time for the board to redirect its attention towards the organisation's long-term prospects," Goergen stated. He stressed the board's responsibility in steering the enterprise back on track.
As the CMCM navigates through this transitional phase, the next step involves Thursday's summary proceedings regarding the validity of André Heinen's dismissal as President of the CMCM Board. RTL sources indicate that legal representatives from both sides are considering requests to postpone proceedings.
If an agreement regarding the presidency is reached during the upcoming meeting, the need for the summary proceedings would be removed.
Following the publication of the original article and video, the CMCM staff delegation distanced itself from the statements made by Goergen and his team and once again backed the deposed President Heinen.
