Justice Minister Elisabeth Margue has pledged to halt the placement of minors in adult prisons, aligning with MPs' calls for reform following the recent commitment of a minor to Schrassig prison.
The recently appointed Minister of Justice representing the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) aims to engage with relevant stakeholders regarding the implementation of immediate court appearances ("comparution immédiate"). In statements made after a Parliamentary Justice Committee meeting, Margue, as reported on the Chamber of Deputies' website, conveyed her understanding of the reservations expressed by some MPs on this matter.
The Minister stressed the importance of striking a balance between upholding the rights of the accused and ensuring the efficiency of the judicial system. Margue has also affirmed her commitment to preventing the placement of minors in Schrassig's adult prison in the future, despite the recent case involving another minor this week.
