A 17-year-old apprehended with drugs and weapons after fleeing the state socio-educational centre has been placed in Luxembourg's Schrassig adult prison, marking the second such instance this week due to overcrowding at the Dreiborn juvenile facility.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Diekirch prosecutor's office announces that yet another minor has been placed in the Schrassig adult prison, an "exceptional measure, but one that has become unavoidable due to the deterioration in the minor's behaviour".
The 17-year-old had previously fled from the Dreiborn state socio-educational centre and was apprehended on 12 December 2023 by police from the Luxembourg City police station. At the time, the minor was carrying significant amounts of cocaine and cannabis, as well as prohibited weaponry and cash money.
The statement explains that "recourse had to be made to the Schrassig penitentiary centre" due to the absence of available rooms in Dreiborn. The placement is described as "temporary".
Earlier this week, another minor caught entering a home and robbing the owner was placed in Schrassig prison due to a lack of space in Dreiborn.
