Six Luxembourg banks — Spuerkeess, BIL, BGL BNP Paribas, Raiffeisen, POST, and ING — have announced plans to merge their ATM networks by 2025.
This joint initiative aims to "optimise" the distribution of ATMs across the country, ensuring access for all citizens.
According to a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, the new ATM network will include a variety of new functionalities. Special attention is given to inclusivity, with features catering to individuals with limited mobility or visual impairments. This includes the incorporation of lowered keyboards and voice control options to enhance accessibility.
In addition, the joint venture seeks to minimise the CO2 footprint of the ATM network. A key innovation is the integration of a recycling function that allows deposited banknotes to be immediately available for withdrawal by other clients. This approach aims to reduce the need for cash transport.
