Luxembourg's overall satisfaction with life is expected to decrease from 7.6 out of 10 in 2018 to 7.2 in 2022, according to a report by the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC).

The study reveals that Luxembourgers felt less satisfied with their leisure time, experienced reduced trust in others, and felt lonelier more frequently.

In particular, there has been a significant increase in feelings of loneliness among young people under the age of 30.

The report emphasises specific factors contributing to this decline, notably a significant drop in overall satisfaction among young individuals and those aged between 30 and 64.

However, there is a slight increase in satisfaction among individuals aged 65 and above.

The proportion of people rating their personal satisfaction at 7 or higher on a scale of 10 decreased from 80.5% in 2018 to 72.3% in 2022.

It is also worth noting that following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, satisfaction levels dropped significantly in 2020 and 2021, reaching a low point of 6.8 before gradually improving to 7.2 in 2022.
