In a recent press release, the Luxembourg Refugee Council once again slammed the government for its immigration policies.

The Council is particularly concerned about the facilities used to accommodate refugees maintained by the National Reception Office (ONA).

These facilities are secured, “or rather monitored,” by over 730 security agents 24/7, the Council writes. The management of these facilities is expected to cost €120 million over the next four years, necessitating a vote in the Chamber of Deputies on a new financing bill. In the eyes of the Council, this is “an astronomical sum” especially compared to what the government is spending on the integration of refugees, “which is in the single-digit million range.” The Luxembourg Refugee Council stresses that it is more important to offer these people psychological and socio-educational support than to monitor them.
