According to the Health Directorate's latest weekly report, 2,384 people got infected with Covid-19 during the week of 17 to 23 October.
The number of positive test results decreased from 2,855 to 2,384 in the span of a week. In addition to these 2,384 cases, there were 962 reinfections, or 28.7% of all those who tested positive.
However, fewer PCR tests were also made in the same time period, 9,159 compared to 10,063 during the previous seven days.
Between 17 and 23 October, five Covid-related deaths were recorded in Luxembourg. The average age of the deceased was 86 years.
The number of hospital admissions experienced a slight increase. 34 Covid patients were hospitalised last week, including four ICU patients. Their average age was 70 years.
The seven-day incidence rate decreased to 369 cases per 100,000 residents, down from 442 cases during the previous week. If reinfections are included, the incidence rate was 521 cases per 100,000 residents over seven days.
Compared to the previous week, the incidence rate decreased in all age groups except for the elderly: +4% for 65 to 69-year-olds, +13% for 70 to 74-year-olds, +18% for 85 to 89-year-olds, and +18% for people above the age of 90.
The main source of contamination was the family circle (20%), followed by the care sector (9%), work (8%), leisure (6%), and travel abroad (6%). The infection source remained undetermined in 42% of cases.
Between 17 and 23 October, 19 people received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, 20 their second, and 182 their first booster shot. 2,674 people received the second additional jab.
As of 25 October 2022, 1,291,424 vaccine doses have been administered in Luxembourg. 474,737 residents are considered fully vaccinated, which corresponds to 79% of the population over the age of five.
