From September, drop-in centres (maisons-relais) will become free, free homework assistance will be introduced, and some schools will start offering French literacy as an alternative to teaching children to read and write in German.
Friday marks the final day of the 2021-2022 school year in Luxembourg's primary schools before the start of the summer holidays for over 59,000 pupils and 6,500 teachers.
Two major reforms to primary education will be implemented in time for the start of the new school year in September. Drop-in centres (maisons-relais) will not only provide their current services free of charge on school days, but they will also start offering free homework assistance.
In addition, four schools in Differdange, Dudelange, Schifflange, and Larochette respectively will launch French literacy pilot projects.
The 2022-2023 school year will start on Thursday 15 September.
