The German police were able to arrest a prisoner from Schrassig, who had been granted provisional release.
This was announced by the public prosecutor's office.
Luis Manuel Bento Dos Santos was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for manslaughter in late 2019. He had caused a fatal accident on 11 October 2019 while speeding and under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
He was granted provisional release but when the authorities wanted him to serve the rest of his sentence, they were unable to locate him.
The public prosecutor's office issued a European arrest warrant. Thanks to the good cooperation between Luxembourg's Fugitive Active Search Teams (FAST) and their colleagues from Rhineland-Palatinate, the fugitive was arrested on 9 February 2022.
