A number of victims of the so-called LuxTrust fraud cases are taking action against Luxembourg banks.
Around 30 of them met with their lawyer, Marc Theisen, last Thursday, after the banks refused to accept liability for the incidents.
Theisen told RTL on request that the vast majority of his clients had authorised him to launch civil proceedings against the respective banks, and that he intended to do so soon.
The lawyer reiterated what he had already told RTL in late August: that the cases differ from one another.
On the one hand, there is no guarantee that judges will rule in favour of the victims. On the other hand, the lawyer representing the victims of the LuxTrust fraud cases does see patterns suggesting that the banks are partially liable.
Last summer saw a wave of public reports of cases in which fraudsters either posed as LuxTrust employees or used fake banking websites to deceive people, gain access to their online accounts and siphon off thousands of euros.
Several suspects have already been apprehended, though it remains unclear whether the victims will recover their money.
