From 19 January, the pandemic helpline will be reinforced by 50 additional people recruited via public tender, in order to meet demand. These details were provided by Minister of Health Paulette Lenert in response to a parliamentary question by MP Gusty Graas from the Democratic Party (DP).
The Minister explained that the number of calls received by this service is strongly dependent on the day and the evolution of the pandemic. There is a significant increase after each announcement of new health measures.
The number of calls per day can vary from 1,500 to 12,500.
A system will be put in place to inform callers of the time they will have to wait before their call is processed.
