LuxembourgHealth authorities introduce new tracing system in light of Omicron surge
The government announced on Friday the introduction of a new tracing system to deal with the wave of infections that the Grand Duchy is currently experiencing. Here's how it works.
In view of the rapid increase in new Covid-19 infections, the Contact Tracing unit of the Health Inspectorate has adapted its operating mode in order to increase its efficiency in tracing risk contacts. This adaptation will be in force as of Friday, 31 December 2021.
If you are tested positive for COVID-19: self-isolate immediately!
In any case, self-isolate. Notify the people you have been in close contact with in the last two days and prepare a list with their names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses.
- By antigen self-test (rapid test):
- Report your result to https://covidtracing.public.lu/.
- You must immediately perform a PCR test to confirm your positive result. The prescription for the PCR test will be sent to you by e-mail within a few hours of your report.
- If your positive result is confirmed by PCR, make the self-report on the same site or if you prefer, wait for Contact Tracing to call you.
If it is not possible to self-report (antigen self-test), you must get a PCR test or a certified antigen test as soon as possible or contact your GP.
- By PCR test/certified antigen test:
- When you have received the Contact Tracing reference number by text, report yourself with the link provided in the text message (https://covidtracing.public.lu/).
- Report all your close contacts with their phone numbers, email or postal addresses, your last day at work, school or other, as well as the date of onset of your symptoms (be accurate and complete in your information, otherwise your report cannot be validated, and you will have to wait for Contact Tracing to call).
- As soon as Contact Tracing has validated your report (within 24 or 48 hours), your isolation order will be sent to you by e-mail (check your junk mail regularly).
If it is not possible for you to make a self-declaration (PCR test/certified antigen test), you will be contacted by Contact Tracing as soon as possible, normally within 48 hours after your test result. If you do not have a computer, please wait for a phone call.
If you were in high-risk contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19
Please note that if you have declared yourself as a close contact or if another person has declared you as a close contact, you will normally not be called by the Contact Tracing team again.
- If your email address is provided, you will in any case receive an order by email to perform a PCR test six days after the last contact with the positive person.
- If you are not vaccinated or recovered, you will also receive a quarantine order. The quarantine can be ended on the 7th day, provided that a PCR test has been carried out on the 6th day after the last contact, and that this test is negative. For 7 days after the end of the quarantine, remember to self-monitor and wear a mask when in contact with others.
- If symptoms appear during your quarantine period or even after a negative test, you should immediately test and self-isolate without delay.
- Further reduce your social contacts, observe protective measures and, if possible, work from home until your PCR test result is negative.
- In case of a positive result, please follow the procedure outlined above.
