As we enter the Christmas period, coronavirus shows no signs of abating, with the new variant spreading rapidly.

As the government announced further measures to curb the spread of the virus, their key messaging remained the same: get jabbed to protect against the virus.

People seeking the first Covid jab can receive it everywhere vaccines are administered. This includes the Victor Hugo Hall centre, Esch/Belval next to the Rockhal, Rue du Deich in Ettelbruck, as well as pop-ups in Bertrange, Bettembourg, Mondercange and across the capital. Jabs are also available at a number of GP surgeries across the country.

Booster vaccines are available at all vaccine centres by appointment only. However, the vaccine centre at the Air Rescue hangar in Findel is specifically designed for boosters only, and will be accompanied by its counterpart at the LuxExpo in Kirchberg from 10 January. For those too impatient to wait for an appointment, the booster is also available at pop-ups, albeit with the potential for long queues. People can also check with their GP for availability.

PCR tests are available for people who have symptoms of the virus or who have come into contact with an infected person can get a prescription to be tested in one of the laboratories. There are also special offers available for children.

People who require a PCR test for overseas travel must make an appointment and pay for the test. Here, it's important to check the validity period for the test, which was reduced to 48 hours from 72 recently, and could therefore affect travel following weekends.

Certified rapid tests are still available at pharmacies. From 15 January, workplaces will introduce the 3G CovidCheck requirement. People who have received one dose of the vaccine will be able to get tested for free to meet the requirements, until they have received their second dose.

The army will set up 5 test centres designed for this purpose, with capacity of up to 10,000 people per day who can get a rapid test and certificate for work.
