The new regulations are staggered in time and (much) more restrictive. The most controversial change, of course, is the “3G” rule for workplaces coming into effect in mid-January. The same system is effective immediately for leisure and sports activities.

While some of the population has expressed opposition more or less vehemently, the government stated that “unvaccinated people are 2.6 times more likely to be infected”, and are proportionally “overrepresented in hospital admissions”. Vaccines work, is the clear message.

This explains the strong emphasis on vaccines in the new Covid strategy.

THE MEASURES EXPLAINED

✏ COVID CHECK AT WORK
😷 COVID TEST
🍽 BARS, RESTAURANTS, CINEMAS...
👮 ID CHECK
💃🕺 GATHERINGS
⚽🎵 SPORTS AND CULTURE
💉 VACCINATION OF MINORS

WHEN WILL THE NEW RULES TAKE EFFECT?

The “2G” system takes effect along with the law itself, the day after it is published in the official journal.

Covid Check at the workplace will start on 15 January 2022. This will allow employers to adapt their processes and employees to get fully vaccinated before that date.

The new measures are in effect until 28 February. As has been the case these past two years, the law may be adapted before it expires, or extended, depending on the evolution of the epidemic.

OTHER MEASURES

The new Covid law also extends a number of measures that were already in place. Notably recovery grants and grants for non covered costs for businesses (November and December are added) and the “leave for family reasons” given to parents in cases of Covid measures concerning one of their children (until 28 February included)
