In week 47, the LNS analysed 747 samples from Luxembourg residents, out of a total of 2,373 cases. In addition to this sequencing, 387 additional samples from residents were screened for the Omicron variant, in order to increase detection capacity.
No Omicron cases were detected in the sequencing, with all samples caused by the Delta variant. The AY.43 line remains the most frequent (35.1%), followed by AY.4 (10.4%) and AY.98.1 (8.1%).The same three lines were found to be the most common, both in hospital samples and in post-vaccine breakthrough cases.
In addition, the screening identified 11 cases of influenza-like illness, exceeding the recommended threshold for the new epidemic season, according to the guidelines of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
