The association urges people to only ask for an appointment if they have received their final dose at least six months ago, or four months in the case of the vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca.

The Association of Doctors and Dentists (AMMD) has specified that the invitation code is not required to book an appointment for a booster shot with a GP. However, the necessary prerequisites must be respected, and secretarial staff will enquire whether or not they are met before scheduling an appointment.

Those who turn up at doctor's surgeries ahead of time create an unnecessary workload for GPs, the AMMD stressed, adding that those who are most at risk of suffering a severe course of Covid-19 should be prioritised.
