A booster dose can be taken in Luxembourg, at the earliest four weeks after the single-dose injection of the Janssen vaccine.

The news had been expected for several days in Luxembourg. The decision was finally taken on Friday in the Council of Government, respecting the recommendations of the Superior Council for Infectious Diseases (CSMI).

In view of the efficacy data of the Covid-19 Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine against the Delta variant, which is currently prevalent in Luxembourg, and in view of the increase in the neutralising activity of antibodies after a vaccine booster, the CSMI recommends reinforcing the protection of people who have received a dose of the Janssen vaccine.

Pending robust safety data on the administration of a second dose of the same product, the CSMI recommends optimising the protection of these individuals by an injection of Pfizer's messenger RNA vaccine (Comirnaty) or Moderna's vaccine (Spikevax), starting four weeks after the administration of Janssen vaccine.
