OGBL President Nora Back deplored the lack of communication between the government and the syndicates before the announcement of the new measures. She also condemned the attitude of the authorities, who are playing the lone soldier, and the institutions, which are still asking a lot of questions:
What happens to the employee who arrives in the morning and has no test? Does he need to be sent home? Everything must be done to avoid loss of salary or work, the OGBL stresses.
The union also does not accept the fact that employees who have not been vaccinated will have to pay for their tests out of their own pockets, as it would require a budget of several hundred euros per month.
The Horesca federation is asking exactly the same questions as the OGBL, as general secretary François Koepp queried what to do with a person who does not want to be tested and who does not want to show their certificate?”
The Health Minister explained that this was a refusal of work, and that labour law prevailed in this context. In response, Koepp wonders whether that means that the boss has to fire the person when they already don’t have sufficient staff.
Koepp said he clearly believes that this new system is doomed to failure. He regrets that the hotel and catering sector is once again the target of new measures that are difficult to integrate into everyday life.
