The discounter supermarket chain Aldi has recalled two salt mills due to potential salmonella contamination.
The products are 'Gewürzmühle XXL - Meersalz mit mediterranen Kräutern' ("Spice Mill XXL - Sea Salt with Mediterranean Herbs") of the brand "Portland", and 'Salz in Mühlen - Mediterranes Meersalz mit Kräutern' ("Salt in Mills - Mediterranean Sea Salt with Herbs") of the brand "Grill time!". There is a risk that the basil in the spice mixtures might be contaminated.
The products concerned bear the EAN codes 270.1686.2 and 27.055.939 respectively. The "Portland" brand product has a best before date of July 2024 with batch number 125350.
The "Grill time!" brand product has a best before date of May 2024 with batch number 124351.
Aldi advises customers who have already purchased these products to stop using them and return them to the shop. They will be reimbursed, even without the purchase receipt.
Salmonella can cause fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhoea within 12 to 48 hours after ingestion. The risk is even higher for pregnant women, young children, and the elderly.
