Two days ago, the CovidCheck system was extended in hospitals and now applies to all staff members, visits, and doctor appointments. While some hospitals already made use of the CovidCheck system, the procedure now has a legal basis, which clarifies the situation, Dr Philippe Turk stated during an interview on RTL Radio on Friday morning.

Since summer 2021, Dr Turk acts as the President of Luxembourg’s Hospital Federation. Dr Turk sees it as an advantage that he worked his way up as a doctor, since this means that he knows the ins and outs of the hospital sector.

When asked about the coronavirus situation in autumn/winter, Dr Turk replied that he remains cautious. In particular because not everyone has been vaccinated yet.

According to Dr Turk, further efforts must be made to convince unvaccinated people to get the jab, especially since there is still a danger of new variants emerging. However, at the moment the situation inside the country’s hospitals is calm and most are now also better prepared to deal with potential new spikes, Dr Turk explained.

Another topic of discussion was the National Health Plan, which the Ministry of Health is currently working on. Dr Turk expects the plan to clear up the situation regarding the outpatient sector, provide more ambitious goals regarding the digitalisation of the health sector, and propose concrete measures to incentivise people to choose a career in healthcare.
