The road safety campaign was announced on Thursday.
Like every year, the police will focus on the safety of streets surrounding school buildings. Patrols will be deployed in all corners of the country to ensure safe passages for children on their way to school.
The campaign will launch on 15 September, official starting date of the new academic year. "Among other things, officers will check speed infringements and proper stationing around school buildings", the police statement further conveys. Similarly, police will monitor the wearing of seatbelts and using of phones behind the wheel.
In the context of this preventive awareness campaign, officers will also provide yellow safety vests to pupils entering cycle 2.1, meaning the first year of primary school. More than 7,000 vests are expected to be distributed over the coming weeks.
